University of North Georgia Police Department: A Recruitment Campaign Built From the Inside Out
How do you produce a police department recruitment video that authentically represents the department to potential candidates?
The University of North Georgia Police Department needed a recruitment campaign that would reach the right candidates and communicate what makes their department worth joining. Not a generic law enforcement video. Something specific to this department, this university, and the people who would thrive there.
K2 Productions worked directly with their recruitment team to build it — from the first conversation through four days on location and final delivery.
The Challenge
A recruitment campaign for a university police department has to speak to candidates who are making a serious career decision — and it has to do that through the real people in the department. Officers, leadership, and staff speaking for their organization on camera. The content works when it feels genuine, specific, and true to the department it represents.
Getting there requires a director who understands the department well enough to ask the right questions — and who can make the people on camera comfortable enough to answer them honestly.
The Solution
Kevin Eller, K2’s Senior Director, spent the pre-production process inside the University of North Georgia Police Department — learning the culture, understanding what the department values, and discovering what a new recruit should know about joining the team. The script that emerged from those conversations is specific to this department and this university. It gave the production its structure. The real interviews gave it its heart.
The full production scope across four days on location:
- Script writing — developed directly with the department’s recruitment team, specific to their culture, values, and the candidates they want to reach
- Creative direction — Kevin served as creative director throughout, directing K2’s Director of Photography and full crew
- Four days of location filming across the university’s campuses — scripted segments alongside real interviews with officers, leadership, and staff, plus b-roll capturing the environments and the daily work of the department
- Photography — for the department’s print marketing and recruitment materials
- Production management — full crew coordination across four shoot days
Four days across the University of North Georgia’s campuses gave the production the scope to capture the full picture of who the department is. Every location, every role, every environment that makes up the daily work of the department — on camera and in photography. A recruitment video that shows candidates what they’re actually joining.
Directing Real People on Camera
Kevin’s approach on a production like this starts before the camera rolls. Getting to know the officers and staff he’s working with — understanding their work, what they care about, why they chose this department — means the conversation on set comes from a real place. The people on camera are talking about something they know, to a director who took the time to understand it.
The script and the real interviews worked together. The script gave the production its direction and flow. The interviews gave it the authenticity that makes a recruitment video worth watching — and worth trusting.
